Yes. Compress Me is completely free for personal and commercial use, with no signup required.
Do my links expire?
By default, no — your links last forever. You can optionally set them to expire after 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days using the dropdown when shortening.
Can I track clicks?
Click counts are recorded for every link. Detailed per-link analytics dashboards are coming in a future update.
Is my data sold?
No. Compress Me does not sell or share user data. We log the originating IP address for abuse prevention only — see our Privacy Policy.
Can I shorten any URL?
Almost. We block URLs flagged as malicious by Google Safe Browsing, and we don't allow shortening of comprs.me links themselves (no infinite loops!).
How long are short codes?
Six characters by default, drawn from a pool of 62 symbols (a–z, A–Z, 0–9). That gives over 56 billion possible combinations — plenty of room.

What is this, exactly?
Compress Me is a lightweight, privacy-friendly URL shortener built to do one thing well: turn long links into short ones.
No tracking pixels, no upsells, no account walls. Each short link uses 6 random characters from a base of 62 (lowercase, uppercase, and digits), giving over 56 billion possible combinations.
Built with PHP, MySQL, and a great deal of restraint.

What we collect. When you shorten a URL we record the long URL, your IP address, the date/time, and any expiry you choose. When someone visits one of your short links we record the click time, IP, browser user-agent and HTTP referrer.
Why. We use this data only to prevent abuse (rate limiting, malicious-link detection) and to provide click counts to link creators.
Cookies. The public site sets no cookies. The admin panel uses a single session cookie for authentication, marked HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Lax.
Third parties. We send your URL to Google Safe Browsing for malware/phishing screening. Captcha challenges are served by hCaptcha. We do not share data with anyone else.
Retention. Click logs are retained for 90 days. URL records are retained until they expire or are deleted by the administrator.
Your rights. If you would like a link or its associated logs removed, contact us using the address in the footer.
